Choosing Loft Ladders: Factors to Consider

Lofts offer additional space that can be used for storage or as a spare room, study, meditation room, or simply your escape room when you want to de-stress. These are typically directly under the roof, which means they are elevated spaces and loft ladders are the preferred access solution by interior designers, architects, and users because they can be both functional and aesthetic at the same time.

Choosing a loft ladder for your space

There are many different types of loft ladders so choosing one for your space can be quite a challenge. There are three general criteria that designers and users base their choices on. They are the following:

1. Material

Manufacturers offer varied materials for their ladders, but in general, your options are wood, aluminum, and steel. Designers looking for an aesthetic and functional loft ladder often only choose between wood and aluminum as they find that steel ladders don’t quite give the aesthetic vibe.

Alaco Ladder’s aluminum ladders come in different finishes, from natural milled to powdercoat offered in an assortment of colors: Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Black, and Gray. Wood options are Maple, White Oak, Red Oak, Birch, Cherry, Walnut, and Mahogany.

2. Construction

When buying a loft ladder, it’s important to pay attention to its construction and design. Here, don’t hesitate to discuss details of both with the seller or manufacturer before making a purchase. Find out how the ladders are constructed to ensure their safety. For wood ladders, for instance, check to see if steel rods and plated steel braces are used to assemble the units as these offer maximum strength, stability, and comfort.

With aluminum ladders, check to see the type of aluminum alloy used as well as how each ladder unit was constructed and assembled.

Alaco Ladder’s Heavy Duty Aluminum loft ladders are as strong as steel ladders but lighter, easier to handle, install, and maintain, and more sustainable than steel.

Alaco also manufactures and assembles Fall Arrest Systems, the newest things in ladder safety.

3. Ease of installation

Ladders aren’t as tedious and time-consuming to install as stairs, which is why they are the preferred access solution for lofts by designers, safety engineers, business owners, and users alike. However, not all ladders are created equal. There are some that are difficult to install because you need to assemble them yourselves before they can be installed.

For your convenience, choose a pre-assembled, ready-to-mount loft ladder like Alaco’s. Their loft ladders are easy to install and can be done in a matter of minutes depending on the type of ladder (Rolling Track, Pivotal, or Fixed) and the loft’s access points.
